MOXIE Public Schools is Maine's newest charter public school - opening in September 2026 - serving Maine students in grades 6–9 during its first year of operation. Designed as a single charter operating across a connected network of brick-and-mortar "learning sites," MOXIE plans to open three to five sites and grow to roughly 1,260–2,100 students at full scale. Because it enrolls across district lines, the school focuses on Cumberland and Androscoggin Counties — with its first site planned for the Portland–Westbrook area — while remaining open to families statewide. MOXIE's mission is to ensure each Maine student develops the skills, connections, and readiness to flourish in a complex world, with particular attention to students who are new to Maine, multilingual, highly mobile, and/or cognitively diverse. Its competency-based program, aligned to Maine's Learning Results, lets students advance by demonstrating mastery rather than seat time, and is built on four design elements: deep personalization, real-world inquiry-based learning, connected support networks, and whole-self development.
